The Quietek™ was originally developed in 2013 to help researchers, veterinarians, technicians, and management meet newly introduced and improved recommendations for CO2 euthanasia of laboratory animals.
The AVMA recommendations were improved upon in 2020 based on a reassessment of new and previously available information. See the newest version of the guidelines – AVMA Guidelines for the Euthanasia of Animals: 2020 Edition for details. The most notable change with regards to CO2 euthanasia of laboratory rodents is that the recommended flow rate has been increased from 10 – 30% chamber volume / minute to 30 – 70% chamber volume / minute.
The Quietek has been modified to meet these newer recommendations. Additionally, previous versions of the Quietek (which were originally designed to meet the 2013 recommendations) can be modified to accurately meet the new chamber volume and flow rate guidelines.
